Simon has over 20 years experience in the UK Maritime Defence Sector leading Royal Navy submarine maintenance, repair and upkeep projects, major submarine capability upgrades and nuclear infrastructure programmes. Simon has experience across the full life cycle from secondments into the UK Ministry of Defence leading complex equipment procurements to leading the submarine defueling and disposals programme in Babcock. Simon has led a major performance improvement campaign to drive up UK submarine availability, he was the Strategy Director and Chief of Staff for Babcock’s Nuclear business and was the Major Bid Director for the multi-billion pound Future Maritime Support Programme.
In Simon’s current role, he is responsible for Babcock’s strategic relationship with the UK Cabinet Office and leads the Strategic Partnering Programme across the Babcock Group. Simon is also responsible for strategic relationships with industry partners to enable the realisation of Babcock’s growth strategy.
In addition to Simon’s role in Babcock, he is currently a Visiting Scholar at Strathclyde University and the Director of Maritime, Innovation and Research, United Kingdom (MarRI-UK) which aims to increase the global competitive position of the UK maritime sector.
Simon is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Marine Engineer, Chartered Project Professional and Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology. Simon has a Bachelor’s degree with first class honours in Engineering, a Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree with distinction from Strathclyde Business School.
Simon lives in Devon with his wife Anna and has two young daughters. He is a keen kayaker, runner and road cyclist.
